Protecting River Ecosystems: Hsin Tung Yang Joins Commonwealth Magazine's Tamsui River Initiative at Lujiaoxi Wetland
Pioneering Green Manufacturing: Decades of Commitment to Water Stewardship
Founded over half a century ago, Hsin Tung Yang has woven sustainability into its corporate DNA since day one. Our Dayuan Plant stands as Taiwan’s first—and currently only—certified Green Factory in the food manufacturing sector. Since its construction in 1987, the facility was built in accordance with USDA standards, featuring an investment of over NT$20 million in an advanced wastewater treatment system imported from Nijhuis Industries in the Netherlands. By conducting regular monitoring to verify effluent safety for both manufacturing process wastewater and domestic sewage, we uphold the belief that water treatment is not merely a matter of corporate conscience, but a responsibility to lead by example. Since 1987, the Dayuan Plant has safeguarded food safety and wastewater quality, keeping local riverbanks in their natural, pristine state.
Joining Hands to Champion the River: Taking Action for the Tamsui River
Commonwealth Magazine launched the "#DoOneThingForTamsuiRiver" initiative to rally public attention and drive concrete action for local river basin preservation. In 2023, Hsin Tung Yang actively took part by joining CSR@Commonwealth and fellow corporate watershed stewards in signing the Tamsui River Charter: Speaking Up for Our Rivers. On May 29, 2023, our colleagues gathered with corporate river allies and volunteer educators from the Lujiaoxi River Patrol Team. Through guided interpretation and hands-on environmental action, we stepped up as local environmental guardians within this vital wetland sanctuary, growing in harmony with nature. Mai’s Hsin Tung Yang Foundation mobilized nearly ten frontline store managers, headquarters staff, and corporate executives to take part, expanding our sustainability footprint and giving back to society.
Transforming Waste to Life: The Ecological Miracle of Lujiaoxi Wetland
Originally a municipal landfill, the site of Lujiaoxi Wetland was remediated and converted into a vibrant constructed wetland that now treats approximately 12,000 tons of urban wastewater daily, fulfilling a crucial role in purifying water flowing into the Dahan River. Today, this flourishing ecosystem serves as a thriving habitat for hundreds of wildlife species, including migratory birds, insects, fish, amphibians, and native aquatic plants.
Through hands-on involvement and long-term commitment, Hsin Tung Yang aims not only to protect the ecological integrity of the Tamsui River basin, but also to raise broader public awareness of this invaluable wetland, uniting communities to preserve our shared natural treasures.
